That's How We Spent Our Mid-Year School Holiday this Year
The school holiday is over. What memorable things have you done during the break?
Inputting various commands and keep trying to test the results, many children were introduced to robotics for the first time. Their final project was to create a “musical instrument”.
Participant, Jhaylee: It is very fun to do on the holiday, so you don’t just stay at home. This is my first time doing the robotic session. Best part was showing off our creation.
Participant, Sek Hou Yam: The day before this I already looked forward. I have always wanted to be an inventor when I grow up. I invented a piano with cardboards and ice cream sticks.
Staff of HYC, Pang Jin Yan: When designing the programme, we considered that children are usually very focused on their studies and homework, which can be quite stressful. We just wanted them to explore other aspects beyond academics and see if they could be inspired in other areas.

Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre organised a one-day exploration camp for children under Tzu Chi's mentoring programmes. They also invited interested CMC volunteers to join in and experience these activities together.
Changemakers Circle （CMC）, Zay: I found about this camp through my wife. Actually， my expectation of volunteering before right, I thought it would not be meaningful for me, because I thought maybe the kids won’t be interested, but actually that was proven otherwise. I came here, I learned a lot about the kids. Knowing that they enjoy themselves with a smile right, that made me kind of happy. That inspired me to do more volunteering works in the future.
Changemakers Circle （CMC）, Lauryn Tang: To hear them sharing “I want to be here” “I wish I can do this more” that kind of thing, it gives you a happy experience and it makes you remember that all these things, it is a small thing to you, it is just a weekday or weekend, but for them, it might have a big impact to their life, so that is amazing.
Everyone gained new experiences while having fun and serving others during this school holiday.
